Ellery Everett Marvel

E. Everett Marvel, a 90-year resident of the Dufur/Friend area, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was 95 years old.

Everett was born in the small town of Ashwood, Ore., on January 31, 1922. He moved to the Friend area with his parents, Raymond and Helen (Sheringhausen) Marvel, at 5 years of age. He attended Shellrock School, a one room schoolhouse, completing the eighth grade, then moving on to high school at Dufur, Ore., where he graduated in 1941. Everett then hired on as a farm hand, doing field work with his best friend, Dick Merrill, before enlisting in the Marine Corps in the fall of 1942. Everett served his country until fall of 1945, earning a Bronze Star for valor. After the war Everett attended two years of college at Oregon State University. He attended classes only December through May as he was needed on the family farm during the fall and summer months. Everett farmed for the next 60 years, acquiring other small farms to add to the family land. Everett met BettyMarie (Bishop) Frame in 1979 and they married in the fall of 1980. They farmed for several years. After retirement BettyMarie and Everett enjoyed traveling to different parts of the world.
