Ellen was born April 17. 1923 to Harry and Alyuna Routson in Parkdale, Oregon. She was one of five children. She went to school in Parkdale and graduated from Parkdale High School in 1941. After high school she moved to Portland and attended Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated February 5, 1945.
She worked from 1945-46 at Hood River Memorial Hospital, 1947-48 Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister, Calif., 1949-52 Providence Hospital in Portland, Ore., 1952-58 Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, Calif., 1958-62 Hood River Memorial Hospital, 1962-77 Columbia Park State Hospital in The Dalles, Ore., 1979 Hood River Care and 1980-90 Visiting Health Services in The Dalles, Ore.
Ellen enjoyed traveling to the Hawaiian Islands a few times. She also traveled to Alaska, New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti and parts of the western United States.
She loved gardening, anything outdoors and taking pictures.
Her family was everything to her and she will be missed by all.
Ellen was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harry and Alyuna Routson, sister Virginia, and brothers Eugene (Bud) and Jerry.
She is survived by her brother Rick and his wife Patty Routson, and sister-in-law Marge Routson and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations can be made in Ellen’s name to Heart of Hospice (1020 Wasco St. Ste. C, Hood River, Or. 97031).
A celebration of life for Ellen will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2015 at the Parkdale Community Church (4910 Baseline Dr., Mt. Hood, OR 97041).
