Dwane A. Obrist

Dwane Obrist passed away on March 29th at Columbia Basin Care facility. Dwane was born and chose to live most of his life in his family’s beloved town of The Dalles, Ore. His first career spanning more than twenty years was spent as a talented auto mechanic. His skilled hands and generosity were evident when he restored and gave Volkswagen bugs to his grateful nephews and niece as they graduated from high School. Dwane could tinker and repair about almost anything mechanical and was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. Dwane’s second career as a long haul truck driver helped fulfill his passion for travel. When he was not working he often rode his prized motorcycle with friends or traveled out on the open road by himself. Dwane was a free spirit and would often show up on the doorstep of family or friends hundreds of miles from home to surprise them. He also enjoyed playing jokes on people and his day was not complete until he could put a smile on someone’s face. Although Dwane never had any children of his own, he was a father and grandfather figure to many. Above all, Dwane Obrist will be remembered for the love he showed for his family and friends.

Dwane is the beloved son of Vernon and Leota, step-mother Amy (Houston) Obrist. Brother to LaVerne (Obrist) Decker. Cherished Uncle to John Decker, Wash., Fred Decker, Reno, Nev., Kathy Decker, Pacifica, Calif., and Jim Decker, Westminster, Colo. Loving step-father to Cindy Diede, The Dalles, Ore. Great-uncle and Great-Great-Uncle too many nephews and nieces. Grandfather and Great-Grandfather too many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We love and miss you, Dwane.
