Memorial services with full military honors will be held for Donald Sabin Bishop on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Waud’s Funeral Home, Tillamook, Ore. Services will begin with Military Honor Guard.
Donald was born February 10, 1925 in Santa Ana, Calif., to Harold and Gertrude (Naish) Bishop and passed away May 11, 2016 at home in Garibaldi, Ore., at age 91.
After High School, Donald joined the Navy on his 17th birthday. He served during WWII in North Africa against Rommel's forces.
Following this he went to the South Pacific Theatre on an assault Landing Craft where he saw heavy action, lost many friends, and one of the combat vessels he was assigned to.
In December of 1945 having been honorably discharged in the Seattle area Navy yards; good fortune was with him as he was granted permission by Captain Morgan to ride south to his home in California on board the Memphis Belle's Victory Tour.
During the Vietnam Conflict he worked offshore for the Army Corp of Engineers on the dredges.
In 1968 he began a long career as Controller and Engineer of The Dalles Dam and retired in 1982.
Donald enjoyed family, friends, traveling, working in his shop, and on his Ham Radio. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Donald was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Bishop in 1993.
He is survived by his second wife Irene (Creech) Bishop whom he married in 1994.
Children: Son, Steve Bishop, and daughter Donn Williams of The Dalles, Ore.
Step -children: Debi Patton of Burleson, Texas, Lorilie Beckwith of Brownsmead, Ore., Bill Creech of Garibaldi, Ore., and Jinny Marek of Wasilla, Alaska, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
