Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Dean was born in The Dalles on March 27, 1962, the sixth of seven children of Pat and Maxine (Scherrer) Macnab, and one of almost 50 grandchildren of Sherman County pioneers, Alex and Bee Macnab. Dean died from pancreatic cancer at his home in Wasco on April 28, 2015. He was 53 years old.
Dean’s interests included the Trailblazers, weather reporting, photography, maps and mileage charts, and being uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. At the 2014 Sherman County Fair, he received a special award from the Fair Board for consistently entering his photos every year for over 20 years. He also received an award for 10 years’ service in the Government of the United States for being a weather reporter to OSU Extension in Moro. He had been selected to be the grand marshal at this year’s Wasco Memorial Day celebration.
Dean enjoyed traveling the United States, even though it was vicariously through other people. He did travel to Disneyland twice, and last summer took a road trip with six family members to South Dakota to visit the Little House on the Prairie attractions in De Smet. His most recent travels took him to Wallowa Lake.
Dean is survived by his beloved cat, Hobbes; brothers Bo (Mary) Macnab and Harry (Christy) Macnab; sisters Linda (John) Krafsic, Gail Macnab, Debbie (Pat) Bird, and Patti (Chris) Moore; nieces and nephews Jeff Bird, Kari Silcox, Molly Lovell, Megan Pinkerton, Anna Alley, Callie Macnab, Clint Moore, Stacy Bird, Piper Stewart and Ethan Moore; and godparents Fred and Beth Hill.
