Dale S. Fallon, age 98, completed his long journey of life on July 29, 2018. He was born July 7, 1920 in Banff, Alberta and spent most of his youth growing up in northern Idaho and Montana. It was in these locales where his lifelong love of fishing started and flourished throughout his life. Dale’s enjoyment of fishing and the great outdoors in general, was a love he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Dale attended Staunton Military academy in Virginia before returning to Great Falls, Montana for his final year of high school. His desire to improve his rifle marksmanship led to joining the Montana National Guard. While providing National Guard duty on the Deception Pass bridge in Washington State, he met a couple of nice ladies. An invitation to a chicken dinner back at the farmhouse by his future Mother-in-Law resulted in his meeting the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbie) Ann Lane.
While a member of the National Guard, Dale’s unit was activated into the US Army. During WWII, Dale’s 41st Infantry Division completed the longest overseas deployment in military history; 3 years in New Guinea. In addition to his many service medals, Dale earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
After the war, Dale returned home to marry Barbara Lane on May 18, 1946. He attended the University of Montana where he earned a degree in forestry, a profession he stayed with for his working career. Dale and Bobbie’s 72 year marriage produced six children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren at last count.
Dale’s children were born in Missoula, Eugene and The Dalles, Oregon, his home for the past 66 years. Dale and Bobbie greatly enjoyed their social circle of friends in The Dalles. He is survived by his wife Bobbie, and children: Linda, Colleen, Michael and wife Charlotte, Gary and wife Helen, Robin, Roger and partner Tamara.
Dale was laid to rest at the Odd Fellows Cemetery at 1100 West 18th, The Dalles, August 2, 2018 at 10 AM.
