Chester John Oliver

Chester John Oliver, 92, died November 17, 2015. He was born July 5, 1923 to John and Margaret Oliver who emigrated from Italy and lived in The Dalles, along with his sister Flora. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Navy, attended the Naval Academy in Texas, and was a pilot in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. While on leave in Florida he married his wife Betty. After his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to live in The Dalles where they raised their three sons, John, Kent, and Don. He owned and operated Oliver's Floor Covering until his retirement and his son Don took over the business.

Chet was also a long time guide on the Deschutes and loved to fish, go rock hunting and mushroom picking. He was an avid storyteller and you would often see him around town visiting - another passion of his.
