Barbara Vandervalk

Barbara Vandervalk passed away June 22, 2015. She was born to Andrew and Gladys Flottorp in Astoria, Ore., in 1923 and was raised in Kelso, Wash. She attended Washington State University until she entered the Army Air Corp to serve during WWII. She married William Vandervalk following the war and they raised five children and built several successful businesses in Miami, Fla.; where they lived for 26 years. They later retired in the Pacific Northwest to enjoy their homes on the Columbia River; first in Rowena, Ore., then Skamania, Wash. They also continued to have a farm in William’s home area of Ft Macleod Alberta, Canada.

During their final years they moved to Vancouver, Wash., and finally Wilsonville, Ore., Barbara had a long and rich life centered on family and faith. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and shared these with her children and grandchildren. Barbara will live on in the hearts of her children and the many friends and relatives whose lives were enriched by her love and support. She was known for her gentle and kind spirit and will be greatly missed.
