Alice Bernice Sawyer Davey

Alice Bernice Sawyer Davey, of Salem, Ore., passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Salem Hospital. Alice was born in San Francisco, Calif., on September 20, 1928 to Shirley and Gladys Sawyer. Alice lived in Portland, Ore., during her elementary school years then moved to The Dalles, Ore., when her parents started Sawyer’s Variety Store. She worked at the store and attended The Dalles High School where she met Donald Davey. They fell in love when they were attending Oregon State College and married in 1948. In 1953 they made their home in Salem, Ore., and raised their family there. Alice worked for an extended time at the Salem Clinic. She and Donald enjoyed traveling with friends, playing cards (Bridge, Pinochle and Cribbage!) and spending time with friends and family.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her parents Shirley and Gladys Sawyer. She is survived by brother Stan Sawyer (Shirley) of The Dalles, children Cindy Oar (Floyd), Donali/Doni Meyer (Doug), Lori Davey (Carl Rittiman), and Ross Davey (Patty). Alice had 8 grandchildren: Daniel and Emily Meyer, Sarah Horn, Michael and Patrick Oar, Clayton and Nick Davey, Hannah Rittiman. She also had 7 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, 1 nephew and numerous dear friends. Many hearts were touched by this one special life.
