Alan D. Shaw passed away April 16, 2017, in The Dalles, Ore. He was born in Lakeview, Ore., on December 24, 1947, to Les and Marion Shaw. After graduating from Lakeview High School in 1966, he joined the Navy, receiving one of the highest scores, at that time, in his Naval Technical School. He was assigned to the USS Constellation where he served three tours in Vietnam as part of the catapult crew, launching planes off of the flight deck.
He attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem from 1969 to 1971 and Oregon State University from 1971 to 1973. In 1976, Alan returned to Lakeview where he was the director for the Lake County Senior Center. In 1980 he moved to The Dalles to be the Area Agency on Aging Director for Mid-Columbia Council of Governments. His love of computers led him to writing programs, etc. for ComputerLand in Hood River and then being the IT person for Greater Oregon Behavioral Health until his retirement in 2012.
His favorite hobby was riding motorcycles, with his ultimate trip being a tour of the Alps. He also loved music, golf and making furnace marbles at Nichols Art Glass with his good friend, Ed Ritchie.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and brother, Lane. Survivors are; wife Nina of The Dalles; son Zak of Ruch, from a previous marriage to Ginger Casto; sister Diana (Bill) Millsap of Medford, Ore.; sister Gail Reed of Medford; sister-in-law Kathi Shaw of Pasco, Wash.; sister-in-law Dana (Walt) Pope of Gresham, Ore.; and grandchildren; Frank, Kaitlin, Serena, Sabastian, Tigerlily and Scarlett, all of Medford; great-grandson, Bronx of Medford; numerous very special nieces; nephews; great-nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life to be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
