In this final week of the regular season the local OSAA Class 1A girls basketball teams will be jockeying for position in preparation for next week’s Big Sky League District Playoffs Feb. 13-17.
The top-three teams from both the Big Sky West and East divisions qualify for the playoffs. First round games will be played Feb. 13-14.
A key match-up was the Feb. 6 showdown for first place in the Big Sky West Division as the South Wasco County High Redsides (11-1 league, 17-5 overall) faced the defending league champion Trout Lake High Mustangs (result was after the printed edition deadline).
The Mustangs continued their season-long domination of most area teams as they won two more games last week to remain undefeated in the Big Sky at 10-0 and 17-2 overall. Trout Lake won 63-28 on the road over the Bickleton High Pirates (2-9 league, 2-12 overall) Jan. 29; 68-8 at Horizon Christian on Feb. 2.
The Mustangs conclude the regular season with a 6 p.m. home game Friday versus the Lyle/Wishram High Cougars (0-9 league, 0-14 overall), followed by a 2 p.m. road game Saturday against the Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler High Eagles (6-4 league, 13-7 overall) at Mitchell High School.
South Wasco wins eight straight
