Fish get legal win — The Oregon Court of Appeals recently ruled that human-made barriers to fish migration, like dams, have to be upgraded to allow the free passage of fish. This is a long-standing Oregon rule. The court sided with tribes and advocates, including Columbia Riverkeeper, who had challenged a 2022 Fish and Wildlife policy that would have allowed dam operators to trap salmon, load them in trucks and drive them past dams, instead.

Riverkeeper still in court — Alongside other groups and tribes represented by EarthJustice, including Yakama Nation, Oregon and Washington states, the organization is fighting the Trump administration’s withdrawal from the Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement, which could have helped restore healthier rivers.
