HOOD RIVER VALLEY — The Hood River Valley High Eagles will conclude their OSAA regular season volleyball schedule with upcoming games this week.
The Eagles are in a must-win situation as they’ll try to keep their hopes alive to qualify for the 5A state playoffs beginning Nov. 2. The Eagles chances to qualify for the playoffs took a nosedive after they lost two-out-of-three Northwest Oregon Conference match-ups last week.
The Eagles are in seventh place in the nine-team standings; the top four NWOC teams automatically qualify for state. Two other 5A teams — statewide — receive wild card berths based on final OSAA rankings.
The Eagles (5-8 NWOC, 7-12 overall) won 3-1 over the Hillsboro High Spartans (0-13 NWOC, 3-19 overall) on Oct. 15 at Hillsboro. The Eagles then dropped their next two matches at home. The Eagles played in a three-team match Oct. 17 at Hood River Valley High School, and they lost 3-1 to the Canby High Cougars (9-5 NWOC, 12-8 overall), followed by a 3-1 loss to the La Salle Prep Falcons (8-6 NWOC, 8-16 overall).
The Eagles were scheduled to host league leading Wilsonville on Oct. 21. HRV will face the sixth place Milwaukie High Mustangs (6-7 NWOC, 7-9 overall) on Oct. 23 at 6:45 p.m. at Milwaukie, followed by a 6:45 p.m. contest Oct. 29 versus the fifth place Putnam High Kingsmen (6-7 NWOC, 8-15 overall) at home on Senior Night in Hood River. A sweep of those games would give HRV a chance to tie La Salle (8-6 NWOC) for fourth place in league play and would improve the Eagles’ standing in the OSAA rankings.
