Hood River Valley’s final tune-up before the Feb. 9 Northwest Oregon Conference district swimming meet included dual meet sweeps of Pendleton and The Dalles at Hood River Aquatic Center on Feb. 2.
The Eagles compete at district Friday at Parkrose High. Hood River Valley’s boys swim team captured the 2023 NWOC district meet championship, topping Canby for the title, 254-240. The Cougars won the girls team championship with 332 points, while HRV was a close second with 230.5. Canby defeated HRV in boys and girls dual meets this season.
At last week’s meet, where seniors from Hood River and The Dalles were honored, the Eagle boys topped The Dalles 102-41 and Pendleton 106-42. HRV’s girls won 132-23 over The Dalles and 106-64 vs. Pendleton.
The Eagles won 17 of the 22 races, led by the double wins of Maya Arndt (girls 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle), Sophie Cross (girls 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle); Caiden Titus (boys 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle); and Felip Mendez (boys 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke). Mendez won the latter race 1:21.40 to 1:21.94 over Pendleton’s Jack Bonzani.
HRV’s Delaney Hackett won the 100 butterfly, edging Pendleton’s Blanca Botello Martin, 1:20.11 to 1:20.79, and teammate Kylin Eliott won the girls 100 breaststroke.
On the boys side, senior Jackson Bullock won the 50 freestyle in 27.02 seconds, and teammate Charlie Marcotte won the 100 backstroke.
Hood River also won five of the six relays, sweeping the three boys races.
