Tickets will go on sale Aug. 1 for the sixth annual “Cemetery Tales,” Sept. 25-27 at Idlewild Cemetery in Hood River. There will be multiple performances each day and evening, with a limit of 15 per tour.
The cost is $17 per person for general admission; $15 per person for museum members and group time blocks of 15.
Tickets can be ordered online at cemeterytales.eventbrite.com. You may also get your tickets by calling the museum office at 541-386-6772 or by stopping by the museum, located at 300 E. Port Marina Drive. (No refunds or exchanges will be allowed.)
The theme for the 2015 performance is “Choices and Decisions,” inspired by the last words of Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken:” “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.”
Each guest begins their journey by bus, which takes them from the Hood River Valley Adult Center into the cemetery and then drops them at the starting location; a dinner benefitting the Meals on Wheels program is available Friday and Saturday nights.
The groups are then guided from graveside to graveside in the Idlewilde Cemetery by an experienced volunteer, following a path of hundreds of luminaries.
Cemetery Tales is a community outreach program for The History Museum of Hood River County and the Hood River County Heritage Council. Proceeds from this event go towards ongoing operational needs as well as supplies and materials necessary for the preservation of precious museum artifacts. The 2015 performance will include six graveside vignettes featuring life stories from early pioneers including a musician, a businessman, doctor, athlete, and community advocate.
For information on volunteering for Cemetery Tales or other museum programs and opportunities, contact the volunteer coordinator at 541-386-6772 or thmvolunteer@hrecn.net.
As is always the case, the sixth annual event is rain or shine. The museum encourages attendees to bring a jacket and sturdy walking shoes. This year’s performance is a few weeks later than in the past, so the evening temperature will be quite cool. Dress warm so you can enjoy the program in comfort.
This event is not designed for children under the age of 12 due to the format of the performance. Please no pets or baby strollers.
