Waucoma Bookstore and Double Mountain Brewery host Scott Cook, author of “Curious Gorge,” for a book talk on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at Double Mountain Brewery.
Cook is releasing the expanded fourth edition of the guidebook, adding 67 new entries for this edition, “Mostly obscure stuff that locals will love to explore,” according to a press release.
About the Book
“Curious Gorge” is primarily a hiking guide to the Gorge, but with a twist. Written by Cook, a local author, the book also includes many places the typical hiking guide leaves out — the drive-to viewpoints, trail-less excursions to hidden waterfalls, places to watch salmon spawn, or Gorge oddities such as the Trout Lake Ice Cave.
“Curious Gorge” includes hiking information for the Oregon and Washington sides of the Gorge and fun information and history about the Gorge.
In addition to the new entries, Cook provides updated information on the hikes and attractions included in previous editions of his guidebook, as well as new features, such as an updated map divided into four quadrants that corresponds with four sections of the book.
The new edition also includes a search tab system that indicates whether any entry is new, of historic interest, tourist-oriented, obscure, good for a hot-day adventure, etc., GPS coordinates for each entry, and other helpful elements.
