It’s all things avian at the Columbia Center for the Arts, where the upcoming Fine Feathered Friends exhibition during the month of March will feature art and events all related to birds.
Curators Robin (yes, Robin) Panzer and Linda Steider have gathered together bird-inspired art from 15 talented local artists to put on display in the Art Center Gallery from March 1-31. Participating artists include Ann Fleming, Tom Herrera, Abigail Merickel, David Ryan, Mary Rollins, Kathy Watne, Angela Williamson, Kelsey Mosley, Bill Sturman, Wesley Lawson, Elizabeth See, Meran Ni Cuill, Kim Lindemyer, Linda Steider, and Robin Panzer.
In addition, a full month of activities is dedicated to honoring our feathered friends:
March 6, 6-8 p.m.: Opening reception on First Friday at the Art Center Gallery (free) with music by Mark Daly
March 7, 11 a.m.: Raptor Live Demonstration in the Center Theatre, part of the Discovery Center’s Birds of Prey Program (Donations accepted and no reservations required)
March 14, 11 a.m.-noon: Birdhouse Building Workshop for Kids ($20, reservations required, limit 10)
March 21, 1 p.m.: Tattoo Fashion Show & Demo by Kim Lindemyer and Ethan Radcliffe of Raven’s Eye Body Art (free, no reservations required)
March 28, 9 a.m.: Bird Walk with Cathy Flick, Field Biologist (donations accepted, reservations required at linda@steiderstudios.com, limit 20). Spend one hour walking in downtown Hood River and learn about a few new birds and their habitat haunts. Bring binoculars and dress for that day’s forecasted weather. Walk departs from the Center at 9 a.m. and continues up the stairway to the old neighborhood with grand old native oaks and pines. We’ll also visit a private backyard to identify birds up-close and observe key habitat features that attract birds.
Throughout the month there will also be artist demonstrations and an interactive bird display presented by the Conboy National Wildlife Refuge.
