For the first time in two years, The Dalles High Riverhawks volleyball team is competing in its first official OSAA Class 5A traditional fall season. The 2020 season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The short six-week spring season in March and April wasn’t sanctioned by the OSAA due to COVID restrictions.

Through three tournaments, the Cherry City Crush softball squad, made up of all 13U players, had a 9-7 overall record with four of those losses by one run.

Those close games under pressure situations were beneficial to the group as they started 0-2, but finished 4-0 to secure a silver bracket championship at the Tormaschy Memorial Tournament on June 1-2 in Yakima, Wash.

With the temperature rising close to the 90s, there was nothing going to cool off the streaking 12U Cherry City Crush softball squad. The group posted a .435 team batting average and scored 56 runs, and the pitching duo of Kennedy Abbas and Zoe LeBreton limited the opposition to 13 runs, 10 earned, on 21 hits with 34 strikeouts, as the Crush cruised to a 5-0 record and championship honors at the two-day Father’s Day Tournament ending Sunday in West Linn.

Last spring, the Cherry City Crush softball team finished its 10U campaign with an unblemished record and a state championship, facing ‘C’ division squads from across the Northwest. In their first tournament of the year, the 12U Crush went 1-5 at an Ice Breaker Tournament in Tri-Cities, Wash.

The 10U Cherry City Crush Softball team entered the 2016 campaign with one goal in mind – winning state. If this past weekend’s dominant 5-0 performance at the Father’s Day Classic in West Linn is any indication, this group of seven third-year players and five newcomers is ready for the challenge.
